Warmley Rangers (1) v Fry Cub Colts U13 (2)

October 2, 2005

Lets start this match report with the relief of the final whistle. A well fought game by both teams, with Fry’s giving their supporters some concern in the closing 15 minutes when they allowed Warmley to pressure them with some strong attacks.

Warmley kicked off the first half and both teams looked as determined as each other. First Fry’s came close in the 8th minute with some good passing play down the right wing from Ryan Davis, Ryan Ellett and Myles Jefferies. A well floated cross was headed on by Dan Buley which was met by Harry Pople but the shot went straight into the arms of the Warmley Keeper.

In return Warmley came close in the 10th minute with a shot just going over the Fry’s goal.

It was end to end football, with Ryan Davis coming close but finding the side netting, and some excellent defensive work by Tom Sheehan stopped another attack.

Warmleys best effort came in the five minutes before half time when a fierce shot was pushed wide by Jack Baber, Danny Curtis cleared the ball out of the box and the return Warmley shot went just wide.

Justin Skinner and Evan Thomas both had good shots only to see them go just too high and into the keepers arms respectively.

The ref blew for the end of the first half, which saw some good exciting football with Fry’s having most of the chances.

Two minutes into the second half saw the breakthrough for Fry’s. Jack Babers goalkick was headed on by Dan Buley into the path of Harry Pople who poked the ball past the Warmley keeper into the left corner of the net.

1 nil up and Fry’s started to play the ball around well with confidence. Their second goal came in the 40th minute when a delicately crossed ball was met at the far post by the diving Ryan Davis who headed it with finesse into the net.

Warmley stayed in the game and their efforts paid off in the 53rd minute when their striker rounded the advancing Fry’s keeper to calmly slot the ball in to make it 2 – 1.

The last 15 minutes saw wave after wave of attack from Warmley and Fry’s had to dig deep at the back with some defensive heroics from Stone, Curtis and Jefferies.

It was nail biting for the supporters from both teams but the final whistle came with the score staying at 2-1 giving Fry’s a well deserved fourth win in a row.

Well done boys, you’ve started the season impressively.
